The Promise of Palm Grove (Amish Brides of Pinecraft, Book One) by Shelley Shepard Gray (Avon Inspire, 2015)
This is the first book of a new series by Shelley Shepard Gray. This particular Amish romance is a pretty light read in many ways, and perhaps as it should be. Three New Order Amish friends have traveled by bus from Ohio to Pinecraft, Florida for a two week vacation. They stay at a B&B run by a now-Mennonite former Amish woman who feeds them very well. We do find out that one of the girls, Leona, is engaged but she is completely panicked about marrying her fiancee because he doesn’t listen to her and is rather controlling. Leona meets Zack in Florida and he really makes her heart pitter-patter! Her friends also start making new friends in Florida. Will they ever really want to return to cold, dreary Ohio?
This is a very light read (and seriously, almost nothing about religion in this particular novel, except for some of their Amish traditions. There is never even a Sunday service held in the course of this book.) The characters are mostly likeable and the conflicts few. For me, this was the perfect quick light read while recovering from surgery. If you are looking for something that doesn’t take too much energy to read and with a happy ending, this is a book for you.
